Al-Muḥaqqiq al-Ḥillī

Al-Muḥaqqiq al-Ḥillī (1205–1277), also known as Najm al-Dīn Abū al-Qāsim Jaʿfar ibn al-Ḥasan al-Ḥillī or al-Muḥaqqiq al-Awwal, was a foundational Arab Twelver Shiʿi jurist, theologian, and scholar from al-Hilla, Iraq.Life and Background

• Birth and Death: Born in 1205 in al-Hilla, Iraq, and died in 1277 in Najaf, Iraq.

• Role in Jurisprudence: He was a master of figh and uṣūl al-fiqh (principles of jurisprudence) who profoundly shaped the legal doctrines of Twelver Shiʿism.

• Legacy: He is often called al-Muḥaqqiq al-Awwal (the First Verifier) to distinguish him from later scholars.

• Sharāʾiʿ al-Islām: His most famous legal manual, Sharāʾiʿ al-Islām fī Masāyil al-Ḥalāl wa-al-Ḥarām (The Laws of Islam concerning Halal and Haram), remains one of the most authoritative and widely studied compendiums of Imami law, having inspired dozens of commentaries over the centuries.
